We at LIG are seeing an increased number of inquiries on Defense Base Act coverages from international sources. While US employers who are often on US Defense Bases might be familiar with the coverage and how to get it, there are an increased number of employers from other countries working on US Military bases outside the USA. The nationality of the employees nor the home location of the employer do not matter. Simply put, the only interaction they may have with the US is to perform some part of their job on a Military Base. That simple connection is all it takes for the D.B.A. coverage to be needed. Often times, there will be a contractual term that requires this coverage to be purchased. Any carrier wishing to provide this coverage must also be approved by the United States Department of Labor. A list of all is available at dol.gov/owcp/dlhwc/lscarrier.htm. LIG can help; we have existing relationships with approved carriers, who have been placing these risks for years, and are ready to quote.
